Project: Science - From the Bench to the Classroom

Description: Formal education is obligatory and necessary even though only a small portion of the formation of the citizen. Education begins in the first days of life in a non-formal and intuitive for most parents, and continues until the end of life. This is defined as INEP type of education given without sticking to a gradual sequence, which does not lead to degrees or titles, and takes place outside the formal education system or programs and activities organized outside the regular school system, with educational goals well defined. It has been observed in Brazil and abroad, continued growth of non-formal educational institutions which in turn bring an increased diversity of educational methods available to parents and teachers. UFF Space Sciences (EUFFC) is a non-formal education center entered into a formal educational institutions (the first opened in 1991 UFF). Our main purpose is to assess how non-formal education as complementary to formal education, influences conceptual change in science. Report on primary education teachers, who bring their students to EUFFC, there is a more effective learning even if these teachers, most of the time, stay out of activities, participating only as chaperone the students. Thus we aim not only to evaluate the degree of satisfaction and student learning, but also teachers. The methodology used follows the following steps: removal of preconceptions through the Technical Brainstorming (TTI), lecture, construction of the experiments by the students, a new TTI where they discussed the concepts that are still incomplete and finally a written evaluation (small writing) by students in the degree of satisfaction in doing this type of activity. This method, using experiential activities to complement the lecture, has been effective, increasing motivation, creativity, interest and student learning.

Project: Inside the cell: a game for the dissemination of investigative molecular and cellular biology

Description: Issues related to specific knowledge of the cellular and molecular biology, such as cancer, cell therapies, stem cells and cloning, are extremely current and has become a growing degree of exposure in newspapers and television. However, in most cases, these topics are so extremely superficial, and lack the degree of depth necessary for understanding the rationale and scientific basis. For society to follow this wide range of changes, it needs to be reduced the distance between researchers and teachers in addition to the segments involved in the preparation of teaching learning materials. To this end, our group, involving various institutions of research and teaching, has developed an educational game covering topics relevant cellular and molecular biology in a playful and investigators, prosecutors prioritize thinking and teamwork. One of the main advantages of games in the educational context is the fact that young people become active participants in the learning process. In addition, games promote cooperation and create a high level of involvement, being suggested as privileged tools for teaching biology in the National Curriculum Parameters for Secondary Education Médio.Célula Adentro is a board game that offers problems (cases) to be solved scientific by cues that include experiments, diagrams, micrographs, tables, graphics and other elements common to scientific language. The game has been evaluated in several studies, and adapted to audiences of different ages. Studies indicate a high degree of acceptance, since 95% of players said they wanted to play this game again. Still, the data seem to indicate knowledge retention occurs in themes. In this project we will: (1) to continue the development and evaluation of a set of ten cases, addressing relevant issues in the field of cell biology, (2) from prototypes to assess the acceptance, effectiveness and appropriateness of the content of the different cases for students of primary, secondary and tertiary (3) Spread cell biology between teachers, students and society, (4) Open a space for discussion and inclusion of ideas for games and teaching methods in cell biology and biochemistry in elementary school , and higher education.

Project: Inclusion without exclusion as (in) form using different didactic proposals.
